GLOBAL CORRUPTION AND PUBLIC INTEGRITY

In recent years, retaliation against whistleblowers has evolved. Silencing those who speak the truth against corruption at the place of work further promotes corruption. The use of strategic litigation against public participation (SLAPP) has been weaponized against whistleblowers, advocates, journalists, and NGOs. Introducing new legislation in Europe that identifies and seizes SLAPP suits as a form of retaliation against whistleblowers is crucial for combating corruption. There is an urgent need to reform current legislation and educate the judiciary community in order to prevent SLAPP suits retaliating against those who serve the public interest.

Legal experts from around the globe will be analyzing, comparing, and criticizing the different international legislations on public disclosures.

Whistleblowers and their families are subjected to silent, chronic psychological retaliation that can cause post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Retaliation such as bullying at the place of work, social isolation, persecution, and financial strain often results in PTSD. The effects, however, of PTSD on the children and spouses of whistleblowers have been significantly underestimated. As a result, depression, broken families, and suicide tendencies have become epidemic in modern years following work-related public disclosures against corruption. Global experts and veteran whistleblowers who survived PTSD will provide vital knowledge regarding PTSD, create public awareness, and alert policymakers in Greece, in order to better understand this mental condition.

in many countries, including Greece, the topic of workplace equity and diversity remains sensitive. As we gather to discuss ‘A Safe Place to Work,’ we delve into questions surrounding equal treatment and opportunities. Do all employees enjoy the same rights? And what led to the emergence of the Me-Too movement in Greece? Join us as we explore these critical issues and advocate for justice, equity, and inclusion in our workplaces.

This conference will also be focusing on Greece, the country that has become a universal symbol of democracy. Greece has recently adopted the 2019 EU Directive of the Public Disclosure Act within its national laws. We will be discussing the challenges, failures, and successes of this law. Let’s hear it from the legal experts.

We will further debate monetary incentive policies versus compensating whistleblowers who suffered retaliation. The EU has adopted a noble approach. Let’s discuss the different approaches with experts from the USA, EU, and Greece.

Aris Danikas, a Greek/South African and the CEO and founder of Liberty of Speech, a veteran whistleblower himself, will be introducing his vision of “the international treaty of whistleblowers,” including the establishment of an international emergency visa for whistleblowers at risk.

Yasmine Motarjemi, “I always fight a triple battle, legal, media and scientific”

Kyrgyz writer established in Geneva, Zhenishbek Edigeev spoke on June 28, 2024 with Yasmine Motarjemi ( photo DR ), a specialist in food poisoning. After a hard struggle, this whistleblower won a lawsuit against Nestlé but this victory leaves her with a bitter taste. Yes, I won, but it is a very bitter victory. Very bitter because initially, my fight focused on food safety management. In fact, my termination letter states that I was fired for my opinions. So, it was indeed a matter of food safety. During the process, I was harassed for my opinions before being fired. I could have been fired immediately if my opinions did not suit the group, but the group chose to harass me for four years to destroy me psychologically and socially, and ruin my career. In Switzerland, you know, you can fire someone with three months’ salary. It’s very easy to lay
