BOOYSEN SAID IT WAS AN “ABUSE OF PROCESS”.

THE NKABINDE REPORT TELLS A DIFFERENT STORY. Johan Booysen was very confident when he dismissed the Nkabinde Inquiry. He called it an “abuse of process.” He dismissed Aris Danikas’s evidence as old material. He said the courts had already dealt with it. The message was clear: Nothing to see here. Move on. But the inquiry did not simply move on. It heard Danikas. It examined the evidence. It heard forensic evidence. For Aris Danikas, Greek-born South African businessman, internationally recognised whistleblower and human-rights advocate, the journey began when he decided that serious allegations of wrongdoing within the South African police could not simply be ignored. What followed was almost two decades of danger, exile, evidence-gathering, institutional battles and repeated attempts to have his testimony properly heard. Today, that journey has brought him before the Nkabinde Inquiry in South Africa. The beginning of the odyssey As a police reservist in KwaZulu-Natal, Danikas became concerned about allegations involving the former Cato Manor Organised Crime Unit. He began documenting what he believed were serious abuses, including allegations of unlawful killings, torture and manipulation of crime scenes. He provided statements, photographs and video material to
