Global Corruption and Public Integrity: The Human Factor

The keynote speaker at our first international conference was Mr. Panos Alexandris, Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice of Greece. In his opening keynote speech, he emphasized the critical importance of adapting the Directive’s public disclosure act of 2019 to Greek national law.

On our first panel of the day, we discussed various legal frames of the Public Disclosure Act between the USA, EU, and GREECE and some of their weaknesses. We further analyzed the Serbian Public Protection Act, which many experts consider one of the most advanced in the EU region.

Our second panel part 2 continued with experts, Louise Portas PhD, United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) and United Nations Coalition Against Corruption (UNCAC), Dr. Stelios Andreadakis, Reader in Corporate and Financial Law, Brunel University London UK, and Vasilis Stamatopoulos, CEO Fraud Line Greece.

On this panel we discuss the general definition of SLAPP suits and how it is used as a weapon, targeting people who speak truth to power globally.
Panelists include Dr. Suelette Dreyfus CEO of Blueprint for Free Speech, and Nikolaos Leontopoulos investigative journalist of Reporters United.

Panel 5 represents a groundbreaking European initiative on ‘The Human Factor’. During our discussions, we delve into the effects and impact of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a side effect frequently associated with witnesses of public interest, known as whistleblowers and their families, including children.

Our panelists are Jacqueline Garrick, LCSW-C BCETS SHRM-CP, President / CEO WoA, Jane Turner, FBI profiler (retired), whistleblower, National Whistleblower Network USA, and Rebekah Jones, USA Whistleblower ON COVID cover-up.

Panel 6 is highly controversial as it covers South Africa, a country notorious for killing and silencing its whistleblowers.

On our first panel of day two, we start with a controversial topic involving SLAPP suits in Greece, a retaliation phenomenon often used against journalists to silence freedom of expression of speech.

Our fourth panel of day two discusses a controversial subject rewarding Vs compensating whistleblowers only after they have proven retaliation and loss of income. The USA has adopted a monetary reward policy while the EU has a modest approach of compensation only after proven retaliation and losses.

On the final chapter of our first international conference in Greece, Aris Danikas a Greek / South African whistleblower Advocate and founder of Liberty of Speech is introducing his idea of an international treaty of the whistleblower (International Office of the Whistleblower) as well as the emergency expedited visa for whistleblowers and their families in distress.
